Introduction

The III environment of Tembung Village, Medan Tembung District, is a prime example of a community that has been working tirelessly to maintain its regional language and cultural heritage. This study aims to explore the role of interpersonal communication between parents and children in instilling local language knowledge, with a focus on families with children aged 13 to 15 years.

Data analysis was conducted using a single table method to provide a clearer picture of the pattern of communication between parents and children.

The results of this study showed that interpersonal communication between parents and children had taken place quite effectively in instilling the knowledge of regional languages. However, the intensity of communication was still relatively low.
