The Influence of Instagram Video and Whatsapp E-Poster About Anemia on the Knowledge and Attitudes of Young Women in SMK Negeri 2 Binjai

Introduction

In the current digital era, social media has become an essential tool for health promotion. The widespread use of social media platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp has created new opportunities for health education and awareness campaigns. This study focuses on the influence of video uploaded on Instagram and e-poster shared through WhatsApp about anemia on the knowledge and attitudes of young women in SMK Negeri 2 Binjai. Anemia, a nutritional disorder caused by iron deficiency, is a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly among adolescents.

Background

Anemia is a significant public health problem in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 48.9% in 2018. The majority of cases occur among adolescents aged 15 to 24 years. To address this challenge, effective health promotion efforts are necessary, especially through media that are widely used by adolescents. Health promotion is an essential component of health development in Indonesia, which includes the fulfillment of individual and community nutritional needs. Understanding and positive attitudes towards anemia are crucial to prevent the adverse effects of this condition.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental and non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 36 young women from SMK Negeri 2 Binjai. The researchers used video on Instagram and e-poster on WhatsApp as interventions to increase knowledge and attitudes about anemia. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in knowledge scores and attitudes of young women after being given interventions.

Results

The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in knowledge scores and attitudes of young women after being given interventions through video on Instagram and e-poster on WhatsApp. Before the intervention, the average knowledge score of young women was 13.22, which increased to 17.65 after intervention. Meanwhile, the attitude score also increased from 9.83 to 12.83 with a value of P = 0,0001. For intervention through e-poster, knowledge scores increased from 10.78 to 14.83, and attitude scores from 10.22 to 12.00, with the value of P for knowledge and attitudes respectively 0,0001 and 0.0011.

Discussion

The findings of this study show that video media on Instagram has a greater impact compared to WhatsApp e-poster in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of young women about anemia. This suggests that video content on social media platforms can be an effective tool for health education and awareness campaigns. The results of this study have implications for health promotion efforts, particularly among adolescents. It is recommended that young women actively seek clear information about anemia through social media on their smartphones.
