Introduction

Method

In this study, data were obtained from 45 lateral cephalometric photos taken from students of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) and the Faculty of Engineering, University of North Sumatra (USU), as well as patients treated at the USU RSGMP Orthodontic Specialist Clinic in the period 2008 to 2011. Sample selection was carried out purposively to ensure the representative of the Batak tribe. The data obtained was then analyzed using an analytic descriptive survey design and processed with SPSS version 17 software to get accurate results.

The selection of participants was based on the following criteria:

Age: 18-25 years old
Ethnicity: Batak tribe
Growth pattern: normal and horizontal
Skeletal class: Class I

The data collection process involved the following steps:

Collection of lateral cephalometric photos from the participants
Measurement of the lower anterior face height using a digital caliper
Calculation of the ratio of the lower anterior face height to the total face height
Analysis of the data using SPSS version 17 software

Results

From the analysis conducted, it was found that the proportion of the lower anterior face height in the Batak tribe with a normal growth pattern had a ratio of 1,658 (p <0.05), while horizontal growth patterns showed a ratio of 1,628 (p <0.05). These results indicate that the proportion of the anterior face below the Batak tribe is not significantly different from the ideal Golden Proportion value.
